IND vs NZ: Dhawan elaborates why Samson is being ignored in the playing XI – “Mostly every player goes through this phase of not being in the playing XI, even if they have performed well last series. Communication is the key, coaches and captain speak with players. Players like Samson then have clarity as to why he is not picked in the team. Basically, it is all about the benefit of the team, and due to team combinations,” Dhawan said in the press conference.

IND vs NZ: Will Sanju Samson finally get a look at the playing XI?

  • Samson had an extensive net session ahead of the first ODI against New Zealand on November 25.
  • The wicketkeeper batter missed out on playing in the T20 series due to skipper Hardik Pandya going in batting all-rounder in form of Deepak Hooda.
  • But with India looking out for a finisher role in the 50-over format in absence of Pandya, Samson can get a look in.
  • The RR skipper has done well in ODIs in 2022 at the number five role averaging over 100 in nine ODIs.
  • The right-hand batter has played a few blinders in the crucial number five and six roles in ODI.
  • With Pandya rested for the ODI series, Pandya can well take up that role.
