After the conclusion of the two-match series, Chetan Sharma will travel to England with the team. Many of the players are also expected to be part of the England white-ball series after the 5th Test match.

India Tour of Ireland: Why is a selector travelling with the team?

  • With T20 World Cup approaching fast, the selection committee wants to have a first-hand experience of the players’ performance.
  • The touring team in Ireland will be without senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and even Rishabh Pant.
  • Hardik Pandya will be the captain.
  • Barring Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, who will be with the Test squad in England, the squad is similar to the squad for South Africa.
  • Rahul Tripathi is the only new face in the team.
  • Team India will be under VVS Laxman’s guidance in Ireland.
  • Head coach Rahul Dravid will be with the Test team in England.

But it will be a big task for Hardik Pandya who has been appointed as the captain for the series. The all-rounder had a brilliant IPL 2022 and has also performed well in the T20 series against South Africa.

As the selectors are zeroing down on the combination, the likes of Dinesh Karthik, Harshal Patel, and Ishan Kishan will be monitored closely.
