Kidambi Srikanth vs Lu Guang Zu LIVE

India’s top ace Kidambi Srikanth, seeded 8th in the German Open, saw off France’s world no 39 Brice Leverdez 21-10 13-21 21-7 in 48 minutes. Srikanth looked in good touch as he zoomed from 6-6 to 19-8 in a jiffy and pocketed the opening game comfortably. He will now face off against China’s Lu Guang Zu. Srikanth, who was forced out of the India Open Super 500 event in January after testing positive for COVID-19, has a 2-0 record against world no. 27 Chinese. The last of the victories came in December last year in the BWF World Championships.

Lakshya Sen vs Anthony Sinisuka Ginting

Lakshya Sen dished out a superb performance to outwit Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen 21-6 22-20. The 20-year-old, currently world No 12, will next face Anthony Sinisuka, the world No 5 from Indonesia. Sen and Ginting have never faced each other in their careers, but Lakshya will fancy his chances with the Indonesian having lost four of his last five games. The Indian shuttler has had a fine last few months with podium finishes at the Indian Open in January and the World Championships in December, and the 20-year-old will look to add more silverware to his cabinet.

HS Prannoy vs Lee Cheuk Yiu

HS Prannoy has continued his renaissance in the last few months with a fine start to the German Open 2022. Prannoy won 21-14, 21-19 against seventh seed Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong in the men’s singles round of 32 like he did in the World Championships in Huelva last December. Prannoy lost his only head to head encounter against Lee Cheuk Yiu back in 2017 in straight games. However, the 28-year-old will be confident of a better showing after his run to the Indian Open final in January.

Women’s draw

PV Sindhu vs Zhang Yi Man

Seventh seed PV Sindhu trounced Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-8 21-7 in a lop-sided contest to make her progress into round 2 at the German Open 2022. Sindhu was at her ferocious best, and bagged her 15th win over the world no. 11 Thai player. The 2019 champion has never played against Zhang Yi Man, and it promises to be a fascinating tie with both players heading the game in fine form. Sindhu bagged her first title at the Syed Modi International while Yi Man sealed a bronze in the World Championships last year.

Saina Nehwal vs Ratchanok Intanon

On her comeback trail, Saina Nehwal will face a stern test when she faces eighth seed Ratchanok Intanon from Indonesia. It is one of the storied rivalries in badminton, with Nehwal leading 12-6 against the former world champion but the Thai star has been in much better recent form.

The duo last went up in the Thailand Open last year, with Intanon bagging the win, and later went on to win the title. Nehwal’s form in the build up to the German Open has been patchy largely due to her injuries, but she did manage to dig deep to stave off a challenge from Spain’s Clara Azurmendi with a 21-15 17-21 21-14 win.
