Australia will host the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will run from October 16 to November 13, 2022. This is the 8th edition of the showpiece tournament. Australia, who are hosting the competition, are also this year’s defending champions.

International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the champions will receive an incredible USD 1.6 million. Ahead of the one-month-long competition, here we look at the players who will be eager to make a big impact for their respective sides.

SuryaKumar Yadav of India

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav’s rise to prominence in 2022 has been nothing but incredible, to say the least. In a very short amount of time, the in-form right-hander has now probably become the most crucial member of Rohit Sharma’s dominant side.

Yadav only got to play four times for India during the T20 World Cup last year. And his pitiful total of 42 runs from three innings barely raised an eyebrow in the cricketing community.

However, the 32-year-old has been a picture of consistency ever since. The most recent ICC rankings now place him as the No. 2 T20I batter in the world. Coming to Australia, Suryakumar Yadav will definitely play a big role in Team India’s machinery.

Jos Buttler (England)

The England captain is currently dealing with a recurring calf ailment. But one would anticipate that he will heal in time to lead the charge for the 2010 champions.

Buttler has undoubtedly been the best white-ball batter over the past 12 months. At the WC in the UAE and Oman last year, the 32-year-old was the only player to record a century.

Buttler looked to be in even greater form during this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) when he reached triple figures on four occasions. In total, he amassed an incredible 863 runs for Rajasthan Royals. In international cricket, he hit a magnificent unbeaten 101* against Sri Lanka in Sharjah.

Buttler’s performance in the home series against South Africa and India in July wasn’t exactly up to his high standards, but now he will undoubtedly be eager to bounce back to perform at his best in Australia.

David Warner (Australia)

In the 2021 World Cup, only Pakistan skipper Babar Azam scored more runs than David Warner. And the Australian veteran is often a far better player when playing at home.

At the previous T20 WC, Warner scored three half-centuries. And his 289 runs at a remarkable strike rate of over 150 was the best among the top players.

His regal performance played a significant role in the Australian team’s ability to win the trophy at Dubai International Stadium.

Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka)

The Sri Lankan all-rounder has previously demonstrated the capacity to save his finest work for the biggest stage. So it stands to reason that he may lead the island nation to victory in Australia.

Hasaranga shone at the 2021 competition by taking the most wickets (16). And followed that up by concluding Sri Lanka’s successful Asia Cup campaign as the Player of the Tournament.

The 25-year-old will undoubtedly flourish on Australia’s larger grounds. And it is almost inevitable that the great spinner will once again rank among the top wicket-takers in the 2022 edition.

Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan)

It will be difficult to find a T20I batter who is more reliable than the seasoned Pakistan opener, Mohammad Rizwan. Thus it should not be surprising to learn that he is currently ranked as the No. 1 T20I batter in the world.

The consistency of Rizwan at the top of the order will be crucial to Pakistan’s prospects of winning the championship in Australia. And the 30-year-old will be out to match the superb performances he turned in with the bat at the previous competition.

At the 2021 T20 World Cup, Rizwan scored three half-centuries and a total of 281 runs at an average of 70. His teammate Babar Azam and David Warner of Australia were the only other players who scored more runs at the showpiece.
