‘This is why Klopp is the greatest manager of all time’: Football fans praise ‘classy’ Liverpool boss after he used his post-match press conference to congratulate loanee Nat Phillips on Premier League promotion with Bournemouth
Jurgen Klopp had time to send a classy message to Nat Phillips in the middle of Liverpool’s Champions League celebrations on Tuesday night.
The Reds fought off a first-half scare to beat Villarreal 5-2 on aggregate and book their place in the final in Paris on May 28.
It was a special night all around for Liverpool as one of their heroes of last season, Nat Phillips, started for Bournemouth who earned promotion to the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.

As Klopp wrapped up his post-match interview, just before he went to stand up and walk away he said: ‘Congratulations to Nat Phillips by the way.’
There was probably another reason why Phillips was on Klopp’s mind, as the 25-year-old played a huge role in Liverpool even qualifying for this season’s Champions League.
Phillips and Rhys Williams were called upon last season with Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez all out injured for the rest of the campaign, and the pair performed heroics to help Liverpool qualify for the competition.
The Reds had been 10 points off the top four with as many games to remaining, but after earning 26 out of a possible 30 points they ultimately finished the season in third.
Liverpool fans have praised their ‘classy’ manager Klopp for taking the time to congratulate Phillips for his promotion with Bournemouth.

Another Twitter user described Phillips as a ‘very big reason’ as to why Liverpool will face Real Madrid or Manchester City in the final in Paris.
James Daly commented: ‘Klopp is such a special manager. Ruthless as all great managers are in sport but we get to Champions League final and he finds time to congratulate Nat Phillips on gaining promotion with Bournemouth.
‘What a player for us he was last season, without him we ain’t in Paris. Incredible by Klopp.’
Another football fan paid tribute to Phillips, Williams and goalkeeper Alisson, who also helped Liverpool’s top four cause with his 95th-minute winner against West Brom.
They wrote: ‘Isn’t it poetic that the day Liverpool make their return to the CL final, Nat Phillips has helped Bournemouth to the PL.
Klopp made sure to congratulate Phillips before wrapping up his post-match interview
‘Him, Rhys and Alisson all majorly responsible for us being in the CL this season. A special squad has been assembled by Klopp.’
Dean Brawn also commented: ‘Jurgen Klopp congratulating Nat Phillips on promotion with Bournemouth at the end of his press conference is just classy. My f***ing manager.’
Phillips did go on to play for the Reds in the current Champions League campaign.
Though he only got a minute against Atletico Madrid, he then started against AC Milan where he produced an impressive display in the San Siro which led to Liverpool fans nicknaming him the ‘Bolton Baresi’ after legendary Italian defender Franco.

With Van Dijk, Matip and Gomez all back from injury, in addition to the signing of Ibrahima Konate, Phillips found his game time limited at Liverpool after making 20 appearances last season.
This led to him being loaned out to Bournemouth in the January transfer window, where he has made 16 appearances.
Phillips is contracted at Liverpool until 2025, though Bournemouth boss Scott Parker hopes to sign the defender permanently or on a season-long loan.
