MI lose 5 in a row as PBKS clinch 12-run win

MI vs PBKS LIVE Score – IPL 2022 Live Updates : Half-centuries from captain Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan and some fine bowling from Rabada and Odean Smith ensured that Punjab Kings clinched a nail-biting 12-run win against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday. Mumbai’s chase got off to the worst possible start with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan were dismissed cheaply. Dewald Brevis’ enterprising 49 saw MI storm back into the contest, but Odean Smith kept his cool and defended 22 off the final over to see his team home. Chasing 199 to win, Mumbai Indians got off to a flyer with Rohit Sharma looking in good touch. However, it soon descended into chaos with Rohit and Ishan departing off successive overs as Mumbai were down to 32/2. Dewald Brevis and Tilak Varma then took the attack to the opposition, especially the former, who hit Rahul Chahar for 29 runs in an over as MI bounced right back in the contest.

Brevis soon departed on 49 but Suryakumar Yadav continued his stellar form as Mumbai remained in the hunt. However, Yadav found little support as Varma and Kieron Pollard followed to the pavilion soon after with MI needed 48 off the four overs.

Surya took the game to the penultimate over but holed out to long-on off Kagiso Rabada to end all hopes of an MI chase. MI needed 22 off the last Odean Smith over and Jaydev Unadkat started well with a six, but the West Indian responded with 3 wickets to help Kings to a 12-run win.

Earlier, Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan put on a 96-run stand as Punjab Kings dominated proceedings with the bat at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Agarwal scored his 1st fifty of IPL 2022, and Dhawan scored a stellar 70 as Punjab looked well on course for a 200+ score.

However, Mumbai did make a comeback with Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone all departing in quick succession. However, young Jitesh Sharma chipped in with an unbeaten 30 while Shah Rukh Khan also played some big hits later to help Punjab to an eventual match-winning total.
