Chennai Super Kings had an evening to forget as they succumbed to a six-wicket defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in their season opener. The batting crumbled in the first 10 overs and it was only after MS Dhoni’s pyrotechnics in the death overs that Chennai reached a respectable 131.
Despite the shambolic performance, CSK are not expected to panic and tinker too much, with only Moeen Ali likely to be the only change to their line-up. The England all-rounder, who was retained by CSK, had missed the first game having arrived late in India due to VISA issues.
Probable CSK Playing XI vs LSG
- Ruturaj Gaikwad
- Devon Conway
- Robin Uthappa
- Moeen Ali
- Ambati Rayudu
- Ravindra Jadeja (C)
- Shivam Dube
- MS Dhoni (WK)
- Dwayne Bravo
- Tushar Deshpande
- Adam Milne
Moeen should slot right into the middle order, with Mitchell Santner likely to make way for the Englishman. Ali’s presence further adds strength and depth to CSK’s lineup, with his off-spin being more than a handy option in the middle overs. Despite their struggles in the season opener, CSK will persist with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway at the top of the order. Robin Uthappa played a breezy cameo at No. 3, with Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu to follow.
Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni will take up the finishing duties with Dwayne Bravo also adding depth to the batting. Tushar Deshpande and Adam Milne should take up the new ball, as Deepak Chahar continues to remain absent with injury.
