The core India squad will be flying to Australia after the T20 series against South Africa. However, the Dhawan-led side will have the services of the standby players of the World Cup, including Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar and Ravi Bishnoi. The latter bunch will head Down Under after the ODI series.

The 16-member squad for the series was only announced on Sunday. Hence, the Dhawan-led side will have some new faces in the squad, including Rajat Patidar and Mukesh Kumar. The duo has been in fine form of late, and their recent performances have been duly rewarded.

This series presents a wonderful chance for players to showcase their talent against South Africa. With India having a solid bench strength, a solid show will improve their case of selection for the main team as well.

More importantly, in 12 months’ time, the 50-over World Cup will also take place. Hence, the selectors will also be looking at players like Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, Mohammed Siraj among others.

Despite India missing their star players, India will be hoping to deliver in the ODI series. With India already having clinched the T20 series, Dhawan’s side has the players and the class to register another series win in the ODI format as well. However, it is not going to be a cakewalk as South Africa will want to end the tour on a high. It is going to be a strong competitive three-match series.
