The Portuguese government has authorised the sale of Chelsea by Roman Abramovich, with an announcement now expected ‘imminently’.

Reports in Portugal quote their government as saying: ‘Assurance given by the British authorities that the proceeds will be used for humanitarian purposes, not directly or indirectly benefiting the owner of the club.’
