Rohit Sharma’s SPECIAL CLASS – What was Rohit’s message to Ishan? Rohit Sharma, who is also Kishan’s captain in the IPL, took him aside for a chat and gave him reassurance after a tough day in the office.

Rohit especially told him that he needs to ‘ROTATE STRIKE & can’t get bogged down on slow wickets’. The chat was very animated with Rohit 1st looking little upset & then reassuring the youngster ‘he needs to ease down on the pressure’.

When quizzed about the same in the post match presentation, Rohit Sharma said, ” I have been talking to him (Ishan) for a long time now, when he was playing with Mumbai Indians in the middle order which wasn’t his natural position. We saw in Chennai when the pitch was slow he wasn’t able to get going”

The Indian captain added, “It’s just about rotating strike in the middle and with Ishan it’s just about getting some game time and wearing the blue and playing for India, there’s too much pressure. It’s our job to make sure that whenever he steps in he’s quite comfortable.”

Ishan Kishan had a day to forget on Wednesday as he toiled against the West Indian bowlers on a tacky surface at the Eden Gardens. While Rohit Sharma looked in sublime touch, Kishan struggled to rotate strike and keep the tempo going, especially after the powerplay with both Akeal Hosein and Roston Chase keeping him quiet. The 23-year-old was eventually dismissed for a 42-ball 35, finding Fabian Allen in the deep in search of a rescue shot.

After the game, Rohit Sharma was seen animatedly chatting with Ishan Kishan along with the support staff, providing words of encouragement to the youngster after a difficult day. Kishan’s struggles against spin on slow surfaces are well documented, and Rohit was seen shadow batting, perhaps passing on some advice to his batting partner to work on.

Kishan on Saturday became the most expensive player of the IPL 2022 auction after Mumbai Indians shelled out a massive Rs 15.25 crore to retain his services for the new season. The 23-year-old had a good season with the bat in 2020 topping the charts for the Mumbai Indians, but had a mixed 2021 season. Kishan would hope that he can dispel all those concerns and get back amongst the runs and repay that faith, especially with the T20 World Cup also around the corner.
