Who Is Cupcake on ‘The Masked Singer’ Season 6? Best Theories

If you don’t know by now, The Masked Singer is 1,000 percent chaotic and also 1,000 percent impossible to look away from. FOX really found the perfect formula for must-see TV, huh? Anyway, all that’s to say the new characters on season 6 have the internet—and the judges—in shambles trying to decode their identity before the ~big reveal~.

One of the newest members to the season 6 lineup is Cupcake, a character that looks like it straight-up jumped off a Lisa Frank gel pen and came to life to “entertain” us. So ofc it’s time for a deep dive on what celeb volunteered as tribute to be willingly locked inside of Cupcake. Shall we?

The Clues

Okay, there are a handful of clues at the moment, starting with these from The Masked Singer Instagram page, one being Cupcake’s first full performance:

A small clue was also given during the preview episode of the show:

The show’s promo trailer dropped some hints as well:

There were a slew of hints in the clip that aired before Cupcake’s first performance:

Interesting, no? Let’s tally up the standout pieces that could mean *something*:

  1. The compass.
  2. Cupcake’s makeup and pout.
  3. Taking selfies and posting them on a social media page where a ton of Likes came in.
  4. The longer Instagram teaser first shows Cupcake in a diner pressing a…jukebox? Pay phone?
  5. Cupcake saying it’s been a while since they were solo and that they’re “used to sharing a spotlight.”
  6. Close up on the bottle of whiskey.
  7. Heart-shaped pancakes and Cupcake saying, “Food always makes me feel better.”
  8. The red carpet and paparazzi scene.
  9. At least three shots of that green and blue tutu dress! It’s giving Toddlers and Tiaras.
  10. The three security-looking dudes.
  11. One of those dudes jumping rope in the background.
  12. “You Bake Me Crazy” sign.
  13. Not a clue, but a note: If JoJo Siwa weren’t currently on Dancing With the Stars, everyone would one million percent believe Cupcake was her.
    1. The Theories

      RuPaul

So. Many. YouTube. Comments. are suggesting RuPaul! A large part of that is due to Cupcake’s laugh in one of the clue segments, which some think is eerily similar to RuPaul’s one-of-a-kind giggle—voiceover be damned. Cupcake’s low, smokey voice in their first performance also reinforced this theory. The only thing though? RuPaul has been seen out and about recently, from the Emmys on September 19 (The Masked Singer aired literally three days later) to just last week at the Women in Film Honors ceremony in Los Angeles. A lot of others also think Cupcake couldn’t be RuPaul since he’s so tall, whereas Cupcake seemed to be about the same height as host Nick Cannon. Hmmm.

      Billy Porter

Handfuls of people came to this conclusion after hearing Cupcake’s voice in the first performance, noting that the sound lends closer to Billy rather than RuPaul. Even still, there hasn’t been a ton of mentions on how the other clues would point to Billy Porter. So we shall see!

      Ruth Pointer

You might not recognize the name of this long-time entertainer, but you’ve definitely grooved to her and her sisters’ song “I’m So Excited!” (and I just can’t hide it!). Ruth is a part of the legendary group The Pointer Sisters and is known for having a strong, low voice, similar to Cupcake’s! Could it be her???

      Miranda Cosgrove

A YouTube commenter made this guess, and it’s not a bad one at alllll. Let me take you back to Nickelodeon’s iCarly, where Miranda Cosgrove played the OG YouTuber and hosted her own web show—this would definitely lend to Cupcake playing up the social media aspect of the hints.

Also, all those little blue and green dresses could be a nod to Miranda growing up as a child actor (Drake and Josh wouldn’t have been as good without her).

      Bella Poarch

You know this famous TikToker from her recent hit “Build a Bitch,” but aside from her musical talents and social media stature, this option almost seems too obvious…yet somehow not at all unreasonable.

      Kylie Jenner

LOL, alright, alright, this is a stretch, but we’ll entertain it for now. It’s farfetched because we have literally seen a pregnant Kylie Jenner out at New York Fashion Week and she’s seemed prettttty booked and busy promoting her two new lines Kylie Baby and Kylie Swim. Not only that, but she told the world why she wasn’t attending the 2021 Met Gala, and if she’s skipping Met Galas, she’s probably not RSVPing to suit up in a cupcake costume.

Here’s the logic behind why some people think Kylie said yes to The Masked Singer: Cupcake’s pucker is pretty intense (remember the #KylieJennerLipChallenge circa 2015?), and Cupcake seems to love taking selfies and has a solid social media presence and following.

      Cardi B

Okay, hear me out: The video for Cardi’s song “Please Me” with Bruno Mars is epically shot in a diner. Cardi has another song called “Press” and the cover art for the track is her being photographed by a ton of paparazzi. Again, another farfetched idea for too many reasons to count…but imagine how awesome this would be!!!
